Protecting Your Drinking Water

We at the Badger Army Ammunition Plant (BAAP) have been working for years to protect and ensure you have safe drinking water. We have drilled and maintained more than 365 monitoring wells, continually tested private wells, established a groundwater treatment system, provided bottled water and replaced private wells when necessary. But these are not long-term solutions.

Building A Public Water System – The Best Long-Term Solution

Clean drinking water for your home now and in the future is our goal. We strongly believe that establishing a public water system within a proposed water district that includes the townships of Sumpter, Merrimac, and Prairie du Sac will assure residents will have access to a clean source of drinking water.

Finding Clean Water

Good news! Our preliminary borings found good water-producing formations outside the area of concern, north and east of the installation.

Using Your Wells

Residents within the water district will still be able to use private drinking water wells as we go through the process of developing and building a public water system. Eventually, all homes within the water district will need to be connected as the system becomes fully functional.

Including You

No public water system of any description can be developed without your knowledge, your input, and ultimately, your approval. We will provide newsletters, conduct Open Houses, and routinely update our project website with the most current information. This process will be open, honest and inclusive as we seek to provide you with a clean, reliable source of drinking water for the future. We look forward to meeting with you and working together to build a safer, public water system for you and your community.
